80 players—dressed in white—assemble on the dew-kissed, double-cut south lawn of the President’s home.
They plan and plot their strategy for reaching, first, the semi-finals and then the championship round, envisioning their
names emblazoned on the coveted trophy.
The SAR (
Sons of the American Revolution) color guard presents the flags—especially appropriate on the
weekend of Flag Day because Benjamin Harrison commissioned the flying of the American Flag at public buildings
and schools. The head judge highlights the rules governing play,
and each court judge assumes his post on one of 16 courts.
Players find their partners and eagerly take the field. And let the games begin!

Live music performed by the White River Jazz Band fills the air throughout the day. Each of 40 teams enjoys at least four rounds of play, as progress is tracked on a scoreboard. The tournament culminates in a championship round. Spectators are most welcome and can watch the tournament, bid on silent auction items, relax under the tent, and join in for lunch. (Visitor lunch reservations and payment—$12 each—are required by June 1.)
